Lately I’ve been really into plain kettle chips or Lay’s but the picture on this bag of Ruffles’ new flavour, Loaded Potato Skins, looked quite promising. From it I would expect a mélange of flavours: sour cream, cheese, green onion and bacon all mixed onto potato-ey goodness. Upon opening the bag, no real distinct smell comes wafting out but I can see the chips are covered in lots of seasoning.
Taking a bite, the first flavour that hits is the cheddar followed by the tanginess of the sour cream flavour mixed with onion. Hmmm, something’s missing here…. the bacon! Maybe others who have tried these out will disagree, but there is a serious lack of bacon flavour in these chips. Overall, they’re not bad but do taste like a mix between Sour Cream and Cheddar and Sour Cream and Onion chips.
I thought for a second after trying these chips and realized that we’ve had this flavour before. It used to be called “The Works” and even though the last time I had them I was probably 10 years old, I seem to remember them being amazing.
I took a look online to see if “The Works” still exists in the States, only to come across a review posted last year at Fat Guy Food Blog. It looks like in the U.S. they also previously had “The Works” chips and released it now under the flavour of “Loaded Bacon and Cheddar Potato Skins”.
Looks like we’re about a year behind here in Canada, so maybe there is promise of some of the awesome snacks I’m seeing being reviewed in the States coming here at some point!
